Műhely x MOME: The Gerbeaud Legacy

164 years of heritage - 9 object designers - 9 traditional desserts - 9 contemporary concepts - 2 days

The aim of Műhely and the future ONYX is to present a progressive Hungarian cuisine based on the fusion of science, gastronomy and art. In addition to the experimental kitchen, the Workshop will also house a gastronomic library and a ceramic kiln, which will play an important role in our food and object design processes as well as in our post-graduate education programme.

One of the pillars of our work is talent management, where we give space to gastronomic, food science, fine and applied arts projects of talented young people.

The MA1 design course for ceramic design students at the MOME Department of Object Design is jointly led by Angéla Góg DLA, Artistic Director of our Creative Community, and Edit Kondor DLA, a ceramic artist. Last autumn, the students were given the task of designing serving utensils for the Workshop based on an exploration of contemporary dessert culture and related serving techniques, drawing on the heritage of Gerbeaud, with the help of Zsuzsanna Borsos, the Workshop's creative pastry chef.

These designs will be on display for two days during Budapest Design Week, where you can not only see them but also try them out! The students who designed the objects will present their concepts themselves, and visitors will be able to try them out by eating desserts made by the Onyx Workshop!
One session of 3 desserts
In one session, the students will tell you about 3 desserts and the objects they have created to accompany them and then serve them.

Concepts and desserts on both days:

13:00 Esterházy, Cognac cherry bonbon, Rigó Jancsi
16:00 Diplomat pudding, Dobos torte, Gerbeaud bonbon
Registration is required for the programme! The participation fee is 8500 HUF / person, which includes 3 desserts, 1 glass of Onyx sparkling wine and unlimited water consumption.

Art and education

In addition to the experimenting kitchen, Műhely also plays host for our gastronomy library and an open-view ceramics workshop.

On Mondays and Tuesdays the Creative Community gets together behind closed doors to design and test new ideas and to work on preparations for the reformed ONYX.
Wednesdays will be reserved for the tutoring of students of our partner institutes, as well as various events.
